This heart is based on simple spiral crocheted with single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc) and double crochet (dc) stitches; there is no connecting of the rows, just keep working in rounds, gradually increasing size of stitches, as shown below.

you have 12 stitches in the first round:
Second round: 2 dc sts into every stitch of the first round (using back loops)
