The work is done in
straight rows. There are many stitch increases in the first row: 3 or
4 stitches in each chain loop. You can make a smaller tree, all
depends on the number of the initial chain stitches. The swirl is
created by many increases in the first row.
How to make
branch: ch3, sl st in the back loop of chain st, ch3, sl st in
the back loop of chain st, ch3, sl st in the back loop of chain st,
sc st in the same st of prev row.
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
ch st = chain stitch
Row1: Ch 14, 3sc in
second from the hook loop, 3hdc in each of the next 2 chain loops,
3dc in each of the next 3 chain loops , 4dc in each of the next 7 ch
st, ch2, turn
Row2: crochet 2dc
stst in next 24 sts of Row1, crochet 2hdc sts in next 13 sts of
Row1, crochet 2sc sts in the remaining sts of Row1, ch1, turn
Row3: 1sc st in the
first st of prev row, picot, 1sc in next st of prev row, ch6, sc in
next 2 sts of prev row, picot, sc in next 2 sts of prev row, picot,
sc in next 3 sts of prev row, branch, sc in next 3 sts of prev
row, branch, …. continue to crochet branches with 3 stitches
between them.
I had some
yellow-white-red-green acrylic yarn for which I could not find any
use until this Christmas. So I made a garland from chain and picot
stitches, then pushed the picot knots through the holes in the
branches.
It takes about an hour to make, you can hang it or sit it on the table -- it looks good both ways.
